SiS Joins Hands with Global Leader “Dobot” To Taps Into Collaborative Robot or Cobot Market in Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand – January 17, 2025 - SiS, Thailand's leading IT distributor, has entered the collaborative robot or cobot market to help solve the labor shortage in the industrial sector. SiS has been appointed as a core distributor for Dobot, one of the leading global providers of cobots, targeting manufacturing, automotive, logistics and education sectors. Dobot pointed out Asia-Pacific region is one of the fastest growing markets for cobot globally, while Thailand is a key growth market in the region.

Mr. Somchai Sittichaisrichart, Managing Director, SiS Distribution (Thailand) Public Company Limited, one of the largest IT distributors in Thailand, said that the use of robots to replace human labor is becoming more widespread around the world in both manufacturing and service sectors, as labor shortages become a pressing issue in aging societies. As for Thailand, a report published by the Department of Provincial Administration, Ministry of Interior, indicated that one fifth of the population or about 13 million people are now aged 60 or over. Consequently, jobs that pose safety risks, such as delivery workers in logistics and production line workers, will increasingly rely on robots.

According to World Robotics 2023 report by the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), Thailand has imported more than 3,600 robots for use in its industrial sector in 2023. This reflects the country's progress in robotic technology adoption, making Thailand rank 15th in the world and 1st in Southeast Asia in terms of the largest number of robot users. It is clear that Thailand is making use of robots and automation extensively in various industries such as automotive, food and beverage, electronics, metalworking, medical and cosmetics, plastics and polymers, and education and science to improve efficiency and productivity while reducing costs.

“SiS believes the robot market has a great potential, especially the collaborative robots or cobots market, which provides an advantage of working with humans, helping to increase efficiency and safety. These factors help stimulate the widespread use of cobots in several industries. SiS has become a core distributor of Dobot, one of the world's leading cobot providers. This is another important step for SiS to introduce industrial robot products to help increase productivity and reduce operating costs. Dobot is a cobot manufacturer that continuously develops technology and its exclusive technology is currently in use in many countries around the world," said Mr. Somchai.

Mr. Somchai added that SiS has invested in organizing workshops to enhance learning and training for partners in various industries, along with access to experts in automation systems. This will help improve their ability to support sales and deploy cobots in the production process to achieve maximum efficiency and productivity. For education, SiS plans to host coding competitions for various levels ranging from primary to higher education to create a foundation for learning and understanding the use of cobots. The sales target for cobots in 2025 is set at 80 million Baht and it is expected to grow to 300 million Baht in 2027.

Mr. Jerry Liu, Founder and CEO of Dobot, said Dobot is a leading global manufacturer of collaborative robots (cobots). Founded in 2015 in Shenzhen, China, the company has developed core technologies in-house, including Integrated Drive and Control, Smart Interaction, High-performance Motion Control, Safety, Intelligent Sensing, AI, etc, at the forefront globally; for example, SafeSkin, a contactless pre-collision technology that can stop a robot 10-15 centimeters before reaching an object.

Dobot offers a comprehensive lineup of solutions for industrial, retail, and educational sectors, driving smart production and industry upgrades, bridging industry and academics to prepare talents for tomorrow. Dobot has been the leading exporter of cobots in China, with 72,000 cobots currently in use for automation in over 80 countries and regions. Fortune Global 500 companies have relied on their products and technologies.

According to a report from the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), the global cobot market size is projected to reach $1.4 billion by 2024 and grow to $4.9 billion by 2028, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 36.6%. The Asia-Pacific region is one of the fastest-growing markets for cobots globally. In 2024, Dobot’s business in the region saw a year-over-year growth of 90%, with significant market potential in countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, and India.

Mr. Liu talked about the Thai market, saying that Thailand is a key manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia, boasts strong production capabilities and technological advantages in industries such as automotive and electronics. As of 2023, Thailand's automotive production reached approximately 1.83 million units, making it the largest automotive market in Southeast Asia. With the advancement of the "Thailand 4.0" initiative, the country's manufacturing sector is rapidly transitioning toward smart and automated operations, creating immense opportunities for collaborative robots (cobots).

The application prospects for cobots in Thailand are promising, particularly in the automotive industry, where cobots can efficiently handle complex processes such as parts assembly, painting, welding, and quality inspection. By enabling fully automated operations, cobots help businesses improve production efficiency and reduce labor costs. Thanks to their flexibility, safety, and ease of use, cobots can meet the production needs of various industries, regardless of scale, and drive the transition to smart manufacturing.

Mr. Liu added that the appointment of SiS as their core distributor in Thailand is a very important step in expanding the market as SiS is a well-known technology distributor in Thailand, with extensive market experience and a robust sales and service network. Their deep understanding of the manufacturing and automation sectors, combined with strong relationships with industry clients, makes them an ideal partner. By collaborating with SiS, Dobot can quickly penetrate the Thai market while ensuring high-quality products and comprehensive service support for local customers. Dobot looks forward to working closely with SiS to promote the adoption of cobot technologies in Thailand.

“Dobot is confident in the Thai market, recognizing it not only as a core area for manufacturing growth but also as a frontier for smart manufacturing and automation technologies. By delivering advanced cobot solutions, Dobot is committed to helping Thai businesses enhance productivity, reduce operational costs, and embrace intelligent manufacturing. Additionally, with the development of the vocational education system, Dobot aims to provide comprehensive solutions for educational institutions, supporting Thailand's talent pipeline for its industries,” said Mr. Liu.
